Ceftazidime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for treating serious gram-negative infections in dogs, cats, exotic pets, and reptiles. It’s effective against pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and is used when other antibiotics are unsuitable or ineffective.
Available in single-dose vials:
• 500 mg vial – adminstered via IV, IM, or SC injection
• 1 g vial – most common veterinary strength
Dosed at approximately 30 mg/kg every 6–8 hours in dogs, with adjustments needed for renal impairment. Used under veterinary supervision only.
